Definitions:

fountain pens: These are high maintenance writing instruments.  Their distinctive feature is there nib tip thru which the ink flows.

rollerball pens:  These pens are nice compromise between a fountain pen and a ball point pen.  Comes in cartridges.

ball point pens:  This is the most widely used type of pen. It is convenient to use and is very cost effective.

gel ink:  This is a unique type of ink that comes in cartridges.  The result is a rich look on paper.  Usually comes in vibrant colors for art type of projects or for unique look.

desk sets:  This refers to a pen or pencil set that comes with a stand to set on a desk.  The base can be made of marble or wood.  Pens fit in holder attached to base.
